I was inspired by this Glow Stick Chandelier shown at Social Coture to want to make one for my daughter's sweet 16 glow party.
I ordered 75 glow sticks from Glow-sticks.com. I had looked at both Oriental Trading and Amazon for these sticks, but didn't like the reviews on the sticks at Amazon and the shipping was too slow at Oriental Trading Company. So I did an Internet search and found Northern Products. It worked out great being able to order from them because I could order whichever colors I wanted. I ended up ordering 25 blue, 25 green, and 25 pink to go with Drama Queen's party colors. (I also ordered 50 glow necklaces as party favors!) I got a good price and they were at my house within 3 days. I am totally excited and would definitely order from them again.
I then bought 2 embroidery hoops from Jo-Anns. One was a 12 inch hoop and the other was a 9 inch hoop. I spray painted them green so they would blend in with the party and the night.
I layed out the glow sticks in a pattern that allowed me to use them all and make them look cool.
I started by trying to tie all the sticks onto the hoops using white thread. (I wanted it to look like they were floating in the air once activated.) But after spending 2 hours tieing all them on, I couldn't line up the hoops correctly so they laid like a chandelier. So I had to undo them all and tie the hoops together first.
To do this, I used dark blue yarn, so it would blend into the night and also would be strong enough to hold all the sticks when they were tied on. (It's kind of heavy.)
I tied the hoops together and then carefully tied the sticks back onto the hoops. I did find it easier to hang them on something so I could sit on the ground and tie.
Now I can't wait to activate them the day of the party and hang!
