Watermelon Popcorn Recipe

Next to Watermelon, Mini Me just LOVES popcorn.  With his crazy dessert obsession, we end up making a quick batch of popcorn many nights to solve the evening munchies.  So when it came to thinking of other Watermelon treats to have at his birthday party next week, we decided to give this Watermelon Popcorn recipe a try.

It was super easy to make, it just took a LOOONNNNGGG time to make and a SHORT time to eat.  I guess we'll be making another batch before the big party.

I started with:

1 cup of Sugar
1/2 cup of Butter
1/4 cup of Karo syrup
1/2 teaspoon of Salt
1/2 teaspoon of Baking Soda
1 envelope of Watermelon Koolaid

1. Pop a large sauce pan full of good popcorn.  You don't want any kernels in it, so be sure to pick them out if you need to.

2. Add your butter, Karo syrup, sugar, and salt in a saucepan.  Stirring occasionally, cook until the edges start getting bubbly.  Reduce to medium heat and cook for an additional 5 minutes.

3. Remove from heat and stir in baking soda and Watermelon koolaid flavoring.

4. Pour the koolaid mixture on top of the popcorn and stir until well coated.

5. Place the popcorn into the oven and cook for 1 hour at 200 degrees, stirring every 15 minutes.

6.  When your hour is up, pour your Watermelon popcorn onto a baking sheet and let cool.  Then use your hands to separate the popcorn into individual pieces.

7. ENJOY your popcorn.

To me, this popcorn tasted like popcorn drizzled with melted Jolly Rancher.  It was really sweet and good.  Plus, the cool thing about this popcorn is that you can use any flavor of koolaid and make any flavor of popcorn.  Pretty easy and pretty yummy.

What flavor would you make if you could?

Popcorn Turkey Appetizer Treat

I am thankful today for the knowledge that our hotel stay will not last forever.  I know there are many families that are homeless with little or no prospects of a happy ending.  I am grateful that within the next few weeks, we will be in a home we call our own.  In the meantime, I'm grateful to have family that will let us celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday with them.

Since my family LOVES popcorn, I thought I would share this fun Turkey treat from Parents.com.  Using a few paper bags and some yummy popcorn, you can mold your own turkey bursting with a treat that can be used as a Thanksgiving appetizer while you're waiting for the real thing!

Cookies & Creme Oreo Popcorn

This is the last popcorn recipe for our popcorn bar this weekend.

I saw this Oreo Popcorn at Sing For Your Supper and knew that I had to add it to our party treats.  I can't wait to try it...if it's near as good as the Cinnabon popcorn, I know it will be amazing!

Here's the printable recipe so you can try too!

Cinnabon Popcorn

I have always wanted to try and have a Popcorn bar at one of my parties...after all, who (other than 2 of my crazy children) doesn't like popcorn?  Since the Drama Queen LOVES popcorn, I thought this was the perfect chance to try one.

If you don't know what a popcorn bar is, it's pretty much like any other kind of party dessert bar...there are LOTS of different kinds of popcorn and guests can just pick and choose between the different types of treats to sample and enjoy.

So, for the next few days (while I work on my Garage Sale and a few BIG projects to show you next week) I'm going to share a few of the popcorn recipes that we are making for Drama Queen's Sweet 16.

Today's popcorn recipe is from Get Off Your Butt and Bake.  I was going to show you step by step how to make this

but she has already done a WONDERFUL, in depth job.  So I won't waste your time.  Instead, print off the recipe below and hop over to her blog to see great directions (with LOTS of pics!)
